1. 信用證的格式：國際商會于1970年制訂了《開立跟單信用證標準格式》（Standard Form for the Issuing of Documentary Credit）：
1） 開立不可撤消跟單信用證標準格式-致受益人（The Standard Form for the Issuing of Documentary Letter of Credit-Advice for the Beneficiary）
2） 開立不可撤消跟單信用證標準格式-致通知行（The Standard Form for the Issuing of Documentary Letter of Credit-Advice for the Advising Bank）

1） 信開本（To open by airmail）：開證銀行采用印就的信函格式的信用證，開證后以航空郵寄送通知行。
2） 電開本（To open by cable）：開證銀行使用電傳、傳真、SWIFT等各種電訊方法將信用證條款傳達給通知行。
a） 簡電本（Brief cable）：開證銀行只通知已經開證，將信用證的主要內容預先告通知行，詳細條款將另郵航寄通知行。簡電本在法律上是無效的，不能作為交單議付的依據。
b) 全電本（Full cable）：開證銀行以電電訊方式開證，把信用證全部條款傳達給通知行。全電本是交單議付的依據。
